RUGBY SUPPORTS
Rugby Supports is the name given to a number of projects and incentives provided by TRF to help others in the rugby community or to work with rugby to provide a solution, help or aid in times of crisis. It also offers ongoing support by way of belonging to the rugby community, bringing people together for their own wellbeing and that of those around them.
Perhaps the most obvious way of offering support is when disaster strikes such as the Florida hurricanes or the invasion of Ukraine.
During the early days of both, TRF was working with rugby communities locally to utilise their facilities and of course their members. This was particularly important in Florida where space was needed to store essential supples and people to help sort and distribute to families in need.
Ukraine has been one of the most complex humanitarian challenges in living memory and one where TRF has been involved since just after the invasion in February 2022.
Mike Mulroy our EMEA Director travelled to the conflict zone with Moldovan Rugby Referee and Administrator Eugeneu Procopi as they coordinated efforts at a refugee reception centre to provide the supplies that they actually needed, when they needed them as well as involving the Moldovan rugby team to assist with sessions for the children, giving displaced parents some much needed respite.
It didn't stop there; TRF is still supporting some of the displaced rugby family from Ukraine with opportunities to travel to continue playing or officiating and we will continue to do so until we are able to move on to our next phase, helping to rebuild rugby in Ukraine again.
Salute to Service
One of our key principles is to support current and former members of the armed forces and emergency services through rugby.
We know that sport and connecting with the brother and sisterhood is key for the well-being of those who do, or have served; through events that support this on and off the field, we continue to say our grateful thanks to this amazing group of people.
